Hon Innocent Tallest, on behalf of the Igbo Community in Oyo State, has warmly congratulated the Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, on his well-deserved emergence as Chairman of the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs.
He described the appointment as a timely, thoughtful and commendable decision that brings renewed order, clarity and stability to the administration of traditional institutions in the state.
According to Tallest, the Olubadan’s appointment represents a clear affirmation of respect for tradition, due process and long-established customs, while also strengthening harmony and mutual understanding among royal institutions across Oyo State.
In a statement released on Friday, the grassroots mobilizer and politician noted that the Olubadan’s assumption of office aligns seamlessly with the amended provisions of the Oyo State Chieftaincy Law, which restored the council to its rotational leadership structure in keeping with historical precedent.
Tallest, the Agba Akin Apinni Ojee of Ibadanland, stated that the restoration of the council and the choice of the Olubadan as its chairman would deepen cooperation among traditional rulers and enhance the council’s role as a credible advisory body on governance, peacebuilding and grassroots development.
He emphasized that traditional institutions remain indispensable partners in governance, particularly in the promotion of culture, security and community cohesion, adding that a stable, respected and widely accepted leadership of the council is crucial for sustaining public confidence and unity.
The Special Senior Assistant on Community Relations also commended Governor Seyi Makinde for demonstrating courage, political will and sensitivity by reviving the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs after fourteen years of inactivity, describing the move as a clear and laudable show of respect for history, inclusiveness and institutional balance.
Tallest expressed strong confidence that the leadership of the present Olubadan, Senator Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja—whom he fondly referred to as “My Oyo State Daddy”—would foster unity among monarchs and contribute meaningfully to socio-cultural harmony and political stability across Oyo State.
He further called on traditional rulers and key stakeholders throughout the state to give their full cooperation and support to the council under its new leadership, stressing that collective collaboration remains vital to preserving cultural heritage and driving sustainable grassroots development.
The Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs was recently inaugurated following amendments to the state’s chieftaincy law, with the chairmanship designed to rotate among the Alaafin of Oyo, the Soun of Ogbomoso and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Tallest confirmed.
