The Igbole Descendant Development Union (IDDU) has paid a courtesy visit to the 14th Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Peter Olamakinde Olapegba, to celebrate his recent appointment to the prestigious position and honour his contributions as an illustrious son of Igbole in Ibarapa land, Oyo State.
The visit, which took place in Ibadan on Thursday, August 27, 2026, was led by the Chairman of the Union, Comrade Raji Saminu FCA.
During the visit, the delegation formally presented Professor Olapegba with his appointment letter, inducting him as a member of the Board of Trustees (BOT) of the Igbole Descendant Development Union.
The Union also honoured the Vice-Chancellor with an Award of Recognition for his outstanding achievement and for bringing honour and pride to Igbole community, Ibarapa and Oyo State.
The award was presented by Comrade Raji Saminu FCA alongside Elder Ogunleti Azeez.
Speaking during the visit, the Union Chairman congratulated Professor Olapegba on his appointment and prayed for a successful tenure characterised by wisdom, innovation and academic excellence.
Comrade Saminu described the appointment as “a landmark achievement and a source of pride for all descendants of Igbole home and abroad.”
Responding, Professor Olapegba expressed appreciation to the Igbole Descendant Development Union for the visit, recognition and show of solidarity.
He thanked the union for appointing him to its Board of Trustees and for the Award of Recognition, pledging to uphold the values of service and use his position to contribute to the advancement of the University of Ibadan.
The Vice-Chancellor also expressed his commitment to creating opportunities that would contribute to the development and progress of his community.
The visit featured prayers, goodwill messages and a photo session, as members of the union celebrated the milestone with the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor.
The Igbole Descendant Development Union reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Professor Olapegba and strengthening collaboration between the University of Ibadan and the Igbole community for mutual development.
