The national leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has cautioned an Oyo State governorship aspirant of the party, Alagbe Gbemileke, popularly known as Eleniyan, and other aggrieved members against actions that could cause confusion within the party.
The party also reaffirmed that Olooye Taofeek Adegboyega Adegoke is its recognised governorship candidate for Oyo State in the 2027 general elections.
The Deputy National Financial Secretary of the ADC, Oladimeji Fadeyi, stated this on Wednesday during a special interview on Solutions 93.9FM’s AM UPDATE.
The ADC leadership urged Gbemileke and other aggrieved members to sheathe their swords and work with Adegoke to secure victory for the party in the 2027 governorship election.
He said the party’s position was based on the outcome of a recognised primary election conducted by the ADC and confirmed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Fadeyi said Adegoke emerged through a direct primary in which party members voted for him to represent the ADC in the governorship election.
“The ADC has succeeded in presenting credible people to represent the party in the coming elections, and Oyo state inclusive. We had primaries that produced who to represent the Party. For instance, in Oyo State, we had primaries that produced Olooye Adegboyega Taofeek Adegoke as the candidate for the governorship. So, we went through direct primaries and members of the party chose him to represent them in the next election in 2027,” Fadeyi said.
On the party’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Fadeyi expressed confidence in his chances in the 2027 presidential election, citing his experience in government and knowledge of the Nigerian economy.
He also dismissed what he described as rumours surrounding the former Vice President, insisting that Atiku remained a credible candidate.
Fadeyi said Atiku had demonstrated commitment to the rule of law and had played roles in economic reforms and the expansion of telecommunications in the country.
“This man, at some point, even when he was in government, go and check his track record as someone who managed our economy, as somebody who discovered the talents that made the government thick, as somebody who stood firm on the side of rule of law. And that is what he’s still fighting till today, because he stood against the third-term agenda of former President Olusegun Obasanjo. This man went to Court 21 times and won against his boss without bribing a judge, without seeing any Court Registrar behind the scenes.
“When he was Chairman of the Economic Council that was when our GDP made a record growth, and no government has been able to meet the economic growth that Atiku supervised.
“Today, the GSM that people are using to abuse this same Atiku- he revolutionized it. And every time Atiku is running for presidency, he will tell you what he wants to do and how he’s going to do it. He has started again.
“In 2023, President Bola Tinubu ran away from presidential debate. He couldn’t tell us what he wanted to do. That was why you could see those lots of policy somersaults, including the removal of subsidy that they’re talking about now,” Fadeyi said.
