Opposition political leaders, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, are expected to converge on Abuja on Monday, August 31, 2026, for a summit focused on cooperation and coordination ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, is also expected to participate in the meeting alongside representatives of five opposition political parties.
The First Summit of Nigeria’s Opposition Political Parties is being convened by the G100 and is scheduled to hold at the Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja.
The summit is themed “A Framework for Opposition Cooperation and Coordination.”
The meeting is expected to provide a platform for opposition leaders and political parties to deliberate on possible areas of collaboration ahead of the 2027 elections.
The planned gathering comes amid growing discussions among opposition parties and political figures over the possibility of forging a stronger political alliance to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Atiku and Obi, who were presidential contenders in the 2023 election, are among the prominent opposition figures expected at the summit, while Makinde has also emerged as a significant voice in ongoing discussions about opposition cooperation.
The summit is expected to focus on strategies for building a coordinated opposition platform, strengthening collaboration among participating parties and developing a common framework for engaging the electorate ahead of the 2027 polls.
