In a bid to promote quality education and reduce financial burdens on parents, Oyo lawmaker Hon (Dr.) Dawood Akanni Olalere D-Al-Ameen representing Ibadan North West State Constituency has advocated for parents to patronize government schools instead of struggling to enroll their children’s in private schools.
According to Dr. D-Al-Ameen in a statement through the SoroSoke Media, he stated that government schools offer a viable alternative to private institutions, with the Oyo State Government working to improve the standard of public education. The government’s efforts aim to make public schools competitive with private schools, ensuring that every child has access to quality education regardless of socio-economic status.
The State Honourable highlighted the initiatives which Oyo State Government under the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde has keyed into:
• Improving Infrastructure: Renovation of school buildings and provision of essential facilities.
• Enhancing Quality Assurance: Training of Quality Assurance Officers and Education Officers to ensure global standards.
• Reducing Out-of-School Children: Targeting a 10% reduction in out-of-school children.
• Recruitment: 7500 Teachers in Primary School, 5000 Teachers in Secondary School and over 3500 persons for Non Teaching.
• Prompt payment of salaries as at when due.
Dr. D-Al-Ameen’s call to action is timely, considering the Governor Seyi Makinde administration’s strides in education, including inheriting over 400,000 out-of-school children and making significant progress in reducing this number.
“By choosing government schools, parents can reduce Financial Burden, Access Quality Education and Support Community Development.
“Parents are encouraged to explore the opportunities available in government schools and support the efforts of the Oyo State Government in providing quality education for all.”
In addition, parents should be wary of the established fact, public schools have trained professional teachers having graduated from education institutions (NCE/BSC), with the technical know how to teach, learn, assimilate and disseminate. Compares to some private schools teachers armed with school Certificates or OND, and naive of the rudiments of teaching pupils. He added.
