The Executive Chairman of Ibadan Northwest Local Government, Alh AbdulRahman Olanrewaju Adepoju has given 7days- ultimatum to occupants of some Buildings in Akintola/Ekotedo Area to vacate the premises or face the wrath of law.
This according to the Chairman is necessary to prevent loss of lives in case of sudden collapse of the buildings due to their weak structures.
The Chairman who paid on the spot assessment tour to Akintola area and environs upon the report on emergent outbreak of Cholera in the area.
According to the Chairman, cholera is an acute diarrhoea infection caused by the bacterium vibrio cholerea infecting people through contaminated food and water. Thus, necessary actions must be put in place to prevent the spread of the diseases within the Council area.
The Chairman said, ‘After excessive inspection in the area , occupants of some houses whose structures are weak have been given seven days ultimatum to vacate the building. This is necessary to prevent loss of lives in case of sudden collapse of the building’.
Also, the Council Boss has directed that some houses whose toilets are filled up be sealed up immediately till proper evacuation of the soakaways are done by the occupants.
The Council Boss reiterated that the local government will build public toilets in the area to prevent open defecation and whoever find wanton will be penalised.
The Chairman noted that some wells in the area need chlorination and properly covered to make the water more hygienic for drinking.
He ordered that few wells dug near toilets in the area and environs be closed down immediately.
The Council Boss charged all
concerned agencies to work as a team to prevent the spread of the disease in the council area.
Alh Adepoju reiterated that about 30 states in the country have been reported to be experiencing cholera outbreak presently, hence the need to take necessary precautions against the the outbreak in the local government Areas and the state in general.
The Council Boss enjoined the citizenry to maintain a clean environment by sweeping their surroundings regularly, proper dumping of refuse, regular washing of toilets and ensuring an hygienic environment for their households.
He further advised nursing mothers to take proper care of their children by monitoring what they eat, drink and the environment where they mingle with friends.
He maintained that cholera is a contagious disease that must be prevented from being broken out in any community. Adding that the breakout may lead to loss of lives if not adequately prevented.
The Chairman also implored all food vendors within the Council area to prepare their food under hygienic condition stressing that cholera could easily be contracted from contaminated food and water.
Alh Adepoju commended the state government under the leadership of His Excellency, Engr Oluwaseyi Abiodun Makinde for all necessary proactive measures being taken to prevent the breakout of Cholera in the state.
The Executive Chairman enjoined all and sundry in the state to co-operate with health workers in the Local Government and the state to avert breakout of cholera in the state by reporting any unusual symptoms in their body to nearby health care facilities for immediate and adequate treatment.
Meanwhile, the Chairman had paid an unscheduled inspection to the ongoing renovation project of NSCDC office at Ekotedo Area. The Chairman expressed his satisfaction on the work done so far and affirmed that the commissioning will be done soon.
In the same vein, the Chairman was at Oke seni area to inspect the just concluded Bridge project in the area. Alh Adepoju maintained that
Oke seni Bridge was constructed for easy passage of motorists and free flow of water. The Council Boss reiterated that all necessary measures will be put in place to prevent indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the drainage which could cause blockage.
On the Chairman’s Entourage were leader of the House, Councillors, Supervisors, Special Assistants, and Chief of staff.
Others were Heads of Local Government Administration Mrs Rachael Olabode, Heads of Departments, Medical Team Environmental officers and NSCDC Officials from Akintola/Ekotedo Division.
