A 2027 All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial aspirant in Oyo State, Dr. Adewale Kolapo Kareem (AKK), has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late former Governor of Oyo State and Senator Abiola Isiaq Ajimobi, as the state marks what would have been his 76th birthday.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Dr. Kareem described the late Ajimobi as a visionary leader whose life of service continues to inspire governance and leadership in Oyo State and Nigeria at large. He noted that Ajimobi’s tenure as governor ushered in bold infrastructure development, urban renewal, and a commitment to modern governance that reshaped Ibadan and other parts of the state.
“Senator Ajimobi was a leader of uncommon stature, whose intellect, charisma, and dedication to progress earned him the revered title ‘Koseleri’—the one who makes the impossible possible,” Kareem said. “His legacy of resilience, excellence, and people-centered governance remains a guiding light even years after his passing.”
Dr. Kareem further observed that the enduring relevance of Ajimobi’s legacy is reflected in the continued public trust reposed in members of his family. He cited the service of Ajimobi’s son, Hon. Idris Ajimobi, who currently serves as Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as well as the recent nomination of his wife, Dr. Mrs. Fatima Florence Ajimobi, as an ambassador.
According to Kareem, these appointments underscore the values of integrity, competence, and selfless service associated with the Ajimobi name and its contributions to Nigeria’s public life.
As part of the remembrance, the APC chieftain offered prayers for the repose of the former governor’s soul, asking Almighty Allah to grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus and to continue to strengthen his family.
“His life was a gift to Oyo State—marked by bold reforms, unity, and purposeful leadership,” Kareem stated. “It is our responsibility to build on the foundations he laid and ensure that the progress he championed endures for generations to come.”
Senator Abiola Ajimobi, who died in June 2020, served two terms as Governor of Oyo State and later represented Oyo South Senatorial District. He remains one of the most influential political figures in the state’s recent history.
