The member representing Ibadan North-East/South-East Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and APM Candidate, Rt. Hon. Abass Adigun Agboworin, has distributed more than 600 chairs and other educational materials to schools across his constituency as part of efforts to improve teaching and learning conditions.
The intervention, which took place on Monday, covered schools in Ibadan North-East and Ibadan South-East Local Government Areas, with beneficiaries receiving chairs, tables, exercise books and textbooks for their school libraries.
Agboworin also provided a total of ₦50,000 to the beneficiary schools to assist with transportation expenses during the distribution exercise.
Speaking at the event, the lawmaker said the initiative reflected his commitment to improving educational standards and providing a more conducive learning environment for pupils and students across the constituency.
He assured schools that were not captured in the current phase of the intervention that another round of distribution would commence to ensure wider coverage.
Representing the Director-General of the National Directorate of Employment, Mr. Aluko commended Agboworin for providing quality educational materials to support schools in the constituency.
After inspecting the materials, Aluko expressed satisfaction with their quality and urged the beneficiary schools and students to handle them with care.
He noted that proper utilisation and maintenance of the materials would encourage further interventions in the education sector.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Oyo State Pension Board, Hon. Akeem Ademola Ige, described Agboworin as a lawmaker who had continued to demonstrate commitment to effective representation, particularly through his contributions to education.
Ige urged the beneficiary schools to ensure that the materials were put to effective use for the benefit of their pupils and students.
The Educational Secretary for Ibadan South-East, Olumide James, and his Ibadan North-East counterpart, Hon. George Akintunde, were among education officials present at the distribution exercise.
Other dignitaries in attendance included Hon. Abiodun Adedoja Ekolo, Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Energy, and Hon. Akinleye, Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth Development.
Among the schools that benefited from the intervention in Ibadan South-East were Ibadan Christ Apostolic Grammar School, Orita Aperin; Ibadan City Academy Grammar School; Ibadan Grammar School; Anglican Grammar School, Molete; St. Luke Secondary School, Molete; Community Grammar School, Kudeti; IMG School; Alake Primary School; Bolatinwa Nursery and Primary School; Green Valley Nursery and Primary School; and Four Square Nursery and Primary School.
In Ibadan North-East, beneficiary institutions included Loyola College, HLA Agodi, Bashorun High School, Renascent High School, Oluyoro Girls High School, St. Cyprian Primary School, Lagelu Grammar School, St. John Secondary School and Olubadan High School.
The latest distribution adds to a series of education-related initiatives attributed to Agboworin during the 9th and 10th National Assemblies.
According to records of his constituency interventions, the lawmaker has sustained tutorial programmes for SS2 and SS3 students, as well as candidates preparing for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examinations and seeking admission into tertiary institutions.
He has also supported students with JAMB registration forms since 2019. Three students from his tutorial centres reportedly emerged among the best-performing students in Oyo State in 2020.
In February 2024, Agboworin provided support and cash donations to Omoyeni Special Basic Home for the Blind, Orita-Aperin, Ibadan. During the same month, he distributed thousands of school bags, notebooks and textbooks to primary and junior secondary school pupils.
In August 2024, he completed and commissioned a three-classroom block equipped with chairs, tables, fans and other facilities at St. Paul Anglican School, Yanbule, Ibadan North-East.
The lawmaker also facilitated the construction of a six-classroom block at St. Joseph Primary School, Ile-Aperin, Ibadan North-East, in November 2024.
Other educational interventions listed among his constituency projects include the commissioning of the Nigeria School of Finance and Statistics at the 671 Nigerian Air Force Base, Ajia, Ibadan; a ₦500,000 financial support to students representing Ibadan South-East Local Government at the 2025 CCII competition; and a proposed classroom project at St. Eunans, Idi-Ope, Odo-Oba Ward 10, Ibadan South-East.
The latest initiative is expected to provide additional learning resources to beneficiary schools, while the lawmaker’s promise of a second phase signals plans to extend the intervention to more schools across the federal constituency.
