The Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) Teachers Forum has commenced sensitisation activities across public schools and communities in Oyo State.
The forum led by Comrade Joel Akanji, said decision to support the APM was reached after what they described as a review of workers’ welfare and other people-oriented initiatives under the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde. According to the teachers, the administration’s record on the payment of workers’ salaries, gratuities and pensions was among the issues considered in arriving at the decision.
Governor Seyi Makinde, who is currently serving his second term as Governor of Oyo State, has announced his intention to seek the presidency of Nigeria in 2027 on the platform of the APM. The Teachers Forum said they support continuity in Oyo State and also expressed desire for what it described as improved workers’ welfare to receive attention at the national level.
“In Oyo State, we refuse to return to Egypt,” the forum declared, while announcing support for all APM candidates. They said the ongoing sensitisation campaign would take the message to public schools and communities across the state, with the aim of engaging teachers, workers and residents on the forthcoming elections.
The forum also pledged to mobilise members and supporters to participate in the elections, vote for APM candidates and protect their votes throughout the electoral process. They said the mobilisation efforts would continue until the conclusion of the 2027 elections.
