The Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP), in collaboration with Lead City University, Ibadan, has announced its 20th International Conference and General Assembly, scheduled to hold from October 5 to 9, 2026, at the International Conference Centre, Lead City University, Ibadan, Oyo State.
The conference, which is expected to bring together scholars, peace and security practitioners, policymakers, development partners and students, will focus on the theme, “Security Governance and Global Dynamics.”
According to the organisers, the conference is designed to provide a platform for critical discussions on emerging security challenges and the changing dynamics of peace, governance and development across Nigeria, Africa and the global community. The programme will feature an opening ceremony, induction and awards, practitioners’ panel, peace practice workshop, paper presentations, the SPSP General Assembly and a conference dinner.
The organisers stated that papers are expected to address issues around security governance, global uncertainties, geopolitical competition, regional and international organisations, peacebuilding, terrorism, violent extremism, community security, climate change, migration, gender, youth and security, media and disinformation, electoral violence, justice, human security, disaster management and urban insecurity, among other areas.
The conference also provides opportunities for interdisciplinary engagement, with participants encouraged to present research and practical perspectives capable of contributing to improved security governance and accountable governance systems.
While the deadline for submission of abstracts was September 1, 2026, the deadline for full paper submission is September 20, 2026, according to the conference announcement. Conference fees are ₦30,000 ($20) for SPSP members and ₦40,000 ($26) for non-members, with the organisers stating that the fees cover conference materials, tea break, lunch and certificate of participation.
The SPSP and Lead City University conference is expected to attract participants from academic institutions, government, civil society organisations and other sectors interested in finding practical responses to contemporary security challenges.
