The Allied People’s Movement (APM), Lagos State Chapter, expresses deep concern over disturbing reports emerging from various voter registration centres across Lagos State regarding the ongoing voter registration exercise being conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

We have received numerous complaints from eligible Nigerians who allege that they have been denied registration or subjected to unnecessary delays and hostile treatment based on perceived political affiliations, ethnic backgrounds, names, or regions of origin. Such allegations, if true, represent a serious threat to the integrity of our democratic process and the constitutional rights of citizens.

The right to register and vote is a fundamental democratic right guaranteed to every Nigerian irrespective of ethnicity, religion, political leaning, or place of origin. Any attempt by officials or individuals to selectively deny citizens access to voter registration undermines public confidence in the electoral system and weakens the foundations of our democracy.

APM Lagos State calls on INEC to immediately investigate these allegations and ensure that all registration centres operate in a transparent, fair, and non-discriminatory manner. The Commission must also provide adequate monitoring mechanisms to prevent any form of bias, intimidation, or exclusion during the exercise.
We urge Nigerians who have experienced any form of discrimination or obstruction during the registration process to document their experiences and report them through the appropriate channels for prompt investigation and redress.
As a party committed to justice, inclusiveness, and democratic participation, APM believes that every eligible Nigerian must be given an equal opportunity to register and participate in determining the future of our nation.
We therefore call on INEC, civil society organisations, election observers, and relevant stakeholders to work together to ensure that the ongoing voter registration exercise remains credible, transparent, and accessible to all eligible citizens without prejudice.
Nigeria’s democracy can only thrive when every citizen is treated equally and accorded the right to freely participate in the electoral process.
