A prominent socio-political support group, Seyi Makinde Disciples (SMD), has felicitated Muslim faithful across Nigeria and beyond on the occasion of the Eid al-Adha celebration, while also expressing deep concern over the recent abduction of pupils and teachers in Ogbomoso area of Oyo State.
In a statement jointly signed by the Convener, Prince Laja Adeoye, governorship candidate of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) in Lagos State, and the group’s spokesman, Olusegun C. A. Taiwo, SMD described the incident as painful, disturbing, and unacceptable.
The group lamented that the victims, including school pupils and teachers, have remained in captivity for days, while reports of the brutal killing of one of the teachers have further heightened tension and sorrow among residents and concerned Nigerians.
SMD strongly condemned the abduction and killing, describing it as a direct attack on humanity, education, and the peace of Oyo State.
The group extended heartfelt sympathy to the affected families, Governor Seyi Makinde, and the people of Oyo State over the unfortunate development.
“We sympathise deeply with the families of the victims, His Excellency Governor Seyi Makinde, and the good people of Oyo State over this painful incident. The killing of an innocent teacher is heartbreaking and condemnable,” the statement read.
The group, however, commended the initial response of the Oyo State Government and security agencies, noting that efforts made so far demonstrate concern and commitment toward rescuing the victims safely.
SMD urged Nigerians, particularly Muslim faithful observing Eid al-Adha, to use the spiritual significance of the season to pray fervently for the safe return of the abducted pupils and teachers.
“This period of sacrifice, compassion, and prayers should also remind us of our collective responsibility to seek divine intervention for the safe rescue of the victims and peace across the country,” the statement added.
The group also challenged the Federal Government to intensify efforts in tackling insecurity across Nigeria, stressing that the protection of lives and property must remain a top national priority.
According to SMD, the increasing cases of kidnappings, attacks on schools, and killings in different parts of the country require urgent and decisive action from relevant authorities.
While wishing Muslims a peaceful and rewarding Eid al-Adha celebration, the group prayed for lasting peace, security, and progress in Oyo State and Nigeria as a whole.
