PRESS QUESTION & INTERVIEWER SESSION With Mayegun Sunday Olusegun Babanumi, House of Representatives Aspirant, Ibadan North-West / Ibadan South-West Federal Constituency.

Interviewer: “Mayegun, you’ve been very vocal about your ambition, yet you’ve repeatedly said you’re waiting for Governor Seyi Makinde’s directive. Why is that?”

Mayegun Babanumi:
Because leadership is about order and loyalty. Gov. Seyi Makinde leads and I follow. As a devoted and loyal pioneer PDP member in Oyo State, I believe that structure matters. You don’t run ahead of the captain of the ship.

Interviewer: “What exactly do you admire about Governor Makinde’s leadership style?”

Mayegun Babanumi:  Three things stand out for me.

First, he is a practical leader. He doesn’t govern from an air-conditioned office alone. He feels the impulse of the people and ensures they are soothed as much as he can. That’s the kind of leader I want to emulate.

Second, under him, Oyo State has moved to a higher pedigree in socio-economic and infrastructural development. You can see it on the roads, in the schools, in the hospitals. It’s not just rhetoric.

Third, he does not believe in ‘godfatherism’. He believes in character and performance traits. For me, that’s refreshing. It tells me that if you have capacity and loyalty, you’ll be given a chance.

Interviewer: “Some say this is political submission. Do you see it as weakness?”

Mayegun Babanumi:
Not at all. It’s discipline, not to be distracted and lose focus of my goal
His Excellency, Gov. Makinde has displayed that loyalty and integrity which  are vital as the people representatives and steward.

Interviewer: Are you not supporting use of social media as a campaign tool?

MayegunBabanumi: I am a steward that delivers, not a content creator that disappears. Social media is a tool, not a strategy. I’m not against it. But when your entire campaign is AI-generated empowerment graphics and 3D bridges that don’t exist, that’s deception and cheap popularity via social media hype. In today’s politics, everyone is a content creator Electorates must beware of bogus promises. My approach is 70% physical presence, 30% digital reach. You can’t tweet your way out of bad roads or no water. I’ll use social media to inform, not to deceive.” I believe in bringing dividends of democracy to my people.

Interviewer: “What makes you different from other aspirants?”

Mayegun Babanumi:
“My connection to the people”.
I am born and bred among the people I am seeking to represent. I know the streets and terrain of Ibadan North West and Ibadan South West. I grew up among the constituents. I know their needs because I lived their reality. I hawked in Inalende/Alawo, Oke Padre, Ekotedo, Opo-Yiosa etc, after school hours. I became a breadwinner at 20. That humble background prepared me for a servant-leader role. My expression and desire to serve is a passion that goes beyond self-conceitedness. Consensus is ,an act of imposition when the people have already spoken. The Frontline Progressives of Ibadanland and many community leaders and youths have said: ‘We Desire Babanumi. We Want Him. He Is Our Ideal Representative, see I’m a full-breed Ibadan son with no legal baggage, no godfather drama but respectful towards integrity and leaders,  and I have a clean record. I have capacity, acceptability, and I’m on ground always. Kangaroo manipulators or irrelevant politicking will only cause a divisive primary, which is capable of only weakening the good work that sincere leaders of PDP has done to gain more oxygen.
I represent unity and continuity.”

Interviewer “Mayegun, you talk about being a ‘steward that delivers.’ What concrete thing have you done for IBNW/IBSW constituents before now?”

Mayegun Babanumi: “My stewardship started long before politics became a title. I grew up in Inalende/Alawo, hawked after school hours, and became breadwinner at 20. That life taught me what lack feels like. Since then, I’ve quietly supported widows, paid school fees for indigent students, and mediated community disputes. You won’t see it on TikTok because I don’t do it for cameras or cheap popularity. But the market women and youth leaders in our 22 wards can testify. My record is on the ground, not just online.”

Interviewer: “So your aspiration is tied to Makinde’s vision?”

Mayegun Babanumi:
Absolutely. His  Excellency, Our Gov. Engr. Seyi Makinde antecedents are very ideal for me to follow that I want to complement in my aspirations to serve. The massive developmental work he has done in Oyo State, is worthy of emulation and demands continuity. I belive 100% in his vision.
If I get the mandate, it won’t be about me. It will be about how I can bring federal presence to consolidate what His Excellency is doing in Oyo State.

Interviewer: if you get to Abuja, what will be your first 100-day priority for Ibadan North West/South West?”*_
Mayegun Babanumi: “Three things: Human capital development, youth empowerment, and infrastructure follow-up.
I’ll push for federal jobs and training for our youths, ensure our constituency benefits from federal road and health projects, and create a feedback office so constituents can reach me directly. Abuja shouldn’t be where you forget home. I’ll bring Abuja home.”

Interviewer: “Some say you’re too cautious and conservative. Can that style win elections in 2027?”

Mayegun Babanumi :
“Conservatism and cautiousness are not weakness. They are the mark of a focused pursuit of goals. 2027 will not be won by noise but by trust. The electorate is wiser now. They can spot a ‘smart Alec’ with flashy graphics. I’d rather be seen as cautious and win on substance than be loud and fail on delivery. Loyalty, integrity, and performance will carry the day.”

Interviewer Final words to your constituents?

Mayegun Babanumi:
‘Ajosee ni Ajooje’ – collective effort brings collective benefit.
I’m not a social media experiment. I’m a well-groomed societal concern politician.
We Desire Him.
We Want Him.
He Is Our Ideal Representative!
