A female chieftain of the People Democratic Party (PDP), Alakufo Suliyat Opeyemi, has declared her intention to contest for the Oyo State House of Assembly seat representing Ibadan North Constituency II in the 2027 general election.
Alakufo, who hails from Ward 8 in Ibadan North Local Government, said her aspiration is driven by the need to deepen grassroots development, promote women inclusion in governance, and expand empowerment opportunities for constituents.
In a letter speaking to her ambition, she stressed the importance of increasing female participation in leadership and decision-making positions, noting that women remain critical stakeholders in community growth and political development.
According to her, “This aspiration is beyond personal interest. It is about giving quality representation to our people, creating opportunities for youths and women, and ensuring that the voices of our communities are heard.”
She pledged to prioritize empowerment programmes, support for small businesses, youth development initiatives, and people-oriented legislation if elected into office.
Reflecting on her political journey, Alakufo recalled that she had been actively participating in grassroots politics and previously aspired for the same position in 2019 but stepped aside in the interest of party unity.
She added that her continued loyalty to the party and commitment to service have positioned her to seek the mandate of party members and the electorate ahead of the 2027 polls.
