Babanumi’s  Mayegun Sunday Olusegun Babanumi’s act of kindness is becoming legendary, extending beyond his immediate environment. He is widely known for showing compassion without grandstanding or creating press buzz around his acts of magnanimity.

Recently, while heading to pick up household items around Akala Road, he stopped to buy roasted corn from an elderly woman. On the spot, he realized the entire stock of her trade was worth less than two thousand naira (₦2,000).

Moved to pity at the sight, Mayegun Babanumi gave the woman ₦20,000 and left the scene. On his way back, he was shocked to see a motley crowd gathered around the old woman’s shop. A water tank truck had crashed into the shop.

Alarmed about the woman’s safety, he made enquiries and was informed that immediately after he left, the woman also left to restock her goods. It was at that moment the truck lost control and rammed into the shop. The ₦20,000 gift had inadvertently made her leave, thereby saving her from being crushed in the accident that destroyed the shop.

In another recent encounter on his way to a PDP ward meeting along Oke Padre, he saw a group of women scooping cooked rice from the ground for a small child. The child’s tray of rice, which she was hawking, had been tripped off by a reckless okada rider.

As some of the crowd moved to beat the okada man, Mayegun Babanumi stepped in, pacified the crowd, and asked the child the worth of her rice. He gave the child twice the amount she mentioned, to the delight and admiration of the crowd who showered prayers and goodwill upon him.

Beyond these street encounters, Mayegun Babanumi has a long record of community support. He has numerous students on his scholarship bill and has paid WAEC fees and obtained JAMB forms for over 200 students. He runs multiple empowerment and SME support programmes for beneficiaries within and outside his constituency.

He recently provided infrastructural support through the renovation of a police patrol vehicle for the Oluyole Police Station. He is a recipient of numerous awards for philanthropy and service to mankind, and is regarded as a grassroots mobiliser extraordinaire.

Politically, he maintains unwavering support for the PDP and stands in “unrepentant support and unhidden admiration” of Gov. Seyi Makinde’s positive impact on the people of Oyo State.
