The Member representing Ibadan North-West State Constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Aare (Hon.) Dr. Dawood Akanni Olalere, popularly known as D-Al-Ameen, has reaffirmed his commitment to grassroots empowerment, youth development, and sustainable community growth through a series of impactful initiatives across the constituency.
Speaking during a series of radio interviews on Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS), Oluyole 98.5 FM, Jamz 100.1 FM, and Almond 94.3 FM, the lawmaker outlined key programmes and policies aimed at improving livelihoods, reducing unemployment, and enhancing digital literacy among young people in the constituency.
According to him, empowerment has always been central to his service to the people of Ibadan North-West, even before he assumed office as a legislator.
“Empowerment has always been at the heart of my service. Even before becoming an Honourable member, I had already started initiatives to support people in the community, and after assuming office, I intensified these efforts,” he said.
Hon. Olalere explained that unemployment remains one of the biggest challenges confronting youths and skilled artisans in the constituency. To address this, he has consistently implemented empowerment programmes aimed at providing financial support to traders, artisans, and small-scale entrepreneurs.
He cited his January 2026 birthday outreach as one of such initiatives, during which financial support was distributed to residents throughout the day.
The intervention, he noted, had immediate impact as several women used the funds to expand their businesses, while many artisans invested in tools and equipment needed to grow their trades.
The lawmaker also expressed appreciation to the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, for creating employment opportunities that have enabled many constituents to secure jobs within the state’s civil service.
According to him, his role as a representative has helped facilitate access to these opportunities for residents of Ibadan North-West.
He recalled a recent visit to a school within the constituency where three teachers approached him to express gratitude for helping them secure employment.
“The opportunities came because the governor created the openings, and we ensured our people benefited from them,” he said.
Addressing the challenge of declining academic performance among some youths, Hon. Olalere emphasised that the issue is largely linked to limited exposure to technology rather than a lack of intelligence.
To tackle this, he organised a computer training programme for 120 students within the constituency, with 88 successfully completing the programme.
The beneficiaries have since extended the knowledge by training other youths, creating a ripple effect that has significantly improved digital literacy and academic performance among young people in Ibadan North-West.
Hon. Olalere also reflected on governance in Oyo State, noting that the state has maintained a productive relationship between the executive and legislative arms under the leadership of Adebo Ogundoyin, Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly.
He stressed that the legislature in the state remains independent and functional, adding that important issues are often thoroughly discussed and resolved before final decisions are taken on the floor of the House.
The lawmaker further spoke on his political movement to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), explaining that the decision was influenced by the treatment of his supporters by some political associates in Ibadan North-West Local Government as well as broader national political developments.
Despite the transition, he maintained that his political strength lies in the support of the people.
“The power of election lies with the electorate. I have a strong structure and the love of my people, and that gives me confidence for the future,” he stated.
Hon. Olalere disclosed that growing calls from constituents have encouraged him to consider contesting for the House of Representatives seat for Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections.
Highlighting some of his achievements as a legislator, Hon. Olalere listed improvements in community security, regular empowerment programmes conducted monthly and quarterly, as well as efforts to improve street lighting across wards in the constituency.
He also reflected on his previous roles in public service, including serving as a Council Member in Ibadan North-West Local Government, Coordinator of the SURE-P programme where he emerged as one of the best performing coordinators, and a Board Member of the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State.
Concluding his remarks, the lawmaker urged residents to actively participate in the democratic process by registering with political parties and ensuring they possess their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
He described the African Democratic Congress as a viable platform for progressive governance and encouraged citizens to obtain their ADC membership cards and remain engaged in the political process.
Hon. Olalere reaffirmed that his commitment remains focused on empowerment, youth development, and ensuring that the people of Ibadan North-West continue to benefit from opportunities within government.
