APC House of Assembly Representatives aspirant for the Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West Federal Constituency, Oluwatobi John Ogunbayo, has congratulated former Minister of Health Isaac Folorunso Adewole on his appointment as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Ottawa, Canada.
Ogunbayo described the appointment as well deserved, noting that Professor Adewole has consistently demonstrated excellence and dedication in public service and academia.
In a congratulatory message released on Friday, the federal lawmaker hopeful praised Adewole’s longstanding contributions to education, leadership and national development, saying his experience would greatly benefit Nigeria’s diplomatic engagement with Canada.
According to Ogunbayo, Adewole played a significant role in shaping the lives of many students during his tenure as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Nigeria’s premier university.
He noted that he personally witnessed Adewole’s leadership while studying at the institution.
“Professor Adewole was the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan when I was a student there. His leadership style, commitment to academic excellence and dedication to institutional growth left a lasting impression on many of us,” Ogunbayo said.
The aspirant further stated that Adewole’s academic pedigree and administrative experience make him a strong choice to represent Nigeria on the international stage.
He expressed confidence that the former minister would strengthen diplomatic relations between Nigeria and Canada while promoting opportunities for cooperation in education, health, trade and investment.
Adewole, a renowned professor of obstetrics and gynaecology, previously served as Nigeria’s Minister of Health and also held the position of Vice-Chancellor at the University of Ibadan between 2010 and 2015.
Ogunbayo added that Adewole’s ambassadorial posting reflects recognition of his competence and decades of service to the country.
He therefore wished the professor success in his new role and expressed optimism that his tenure in Canada would further enhance Nigeria’s global image and international partnerships.
Professor Adewole is among the recently announced ambassadors-designate approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who authorised the deployment of several Nigerian envoys to diplomatic missions around the world.
The nominees are expected to undergo orientation and complete necessary diplomatic procedures before formally assuming their duties in their respective host countries.
