The 2026 Students’ Union Government (SUG) Week at the Oyo State College of Health Sciences and Technology, Eleyele , Ibadan (OYSCOHEST) began on a strong note on Monday, 26th January, 2026, with impactful community service and intellectual engagement activities, under the leadership of the SUG President, Wisdom Babalola.
As part of the first day’s programme, the SUG executives, alongside other students of the institution, embarked on an outreach visit to Anwar-ur-Islam Secondary School, Eleyele, Ibadan. During the visit, 500 sanitary pads were distributed to female students, while health talks were delivered on Oral Hygiene and proper Menstrual Hygiene management. The session also featured a practical demonstration aimed at helping the students adopt healthy personal hygiene practices.
Speaking on the initiative, the SUG President, Wisdom Babalola, said the outreach was aimed at promoting dignity, awareness, and healthy living among young girls, while strengthening the bond between the institution and its host community.
Later in the day, activities shifted back to the OYSCOHEST campus, where an engaging debate session was held on the topic:
“Prevention Should Receive More Funding Than Curative Healthcare.”
The debate attracted wide participation from students and featured insightful contributions and critical arguments on the importance of preventive healthcare in reducing disease burden and long-term health costs. Participants emphasized the role of early intervention, public health education, and sustainable funding in building a healthier society.
Describing the opening day as a success, the SUG leadership noted that the activities marked the beginning of an exciting and impactful SUG Week.
“This is just the beginning,” President Babalola added, noting that more educative, social, and student-centred activities have been lined up for the coming days.
Students have been encouraged to remain actively involved as the week continues to promote awareness, leadership development, and campus engagement.
