In a bid to ensure a peaceful and credible electoral process, the five accredited candidates contesting in Saturday’s Ibadan North Federal Constituency bye-election have signed a peace accord.
The signing ceremony, held on Wednesday at the Oyo State headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), brought together political leaders, security chiefs, and other stakeholders.
Fola Sunday Oyekunle of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) among other party candidates including Dexter Femi Akin-Alamu, African Democratic Congress (ADC), Adewale Haastrup Olatunji, All Progressives Congress (APC), Olabisi Olajumoke Odususi, All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), and Hammed Badmus, Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) appended their signatures to the agreement.
The bye-election, scheduled for Saturday, August 16, 2025, was necessitated by the passing of Hon. Musliudeen Olaide Akinremi, who died last year at the age of 51.
Addressing the gathering, Oyo State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Adeniran Rahmon Tella, stressed the importance of the peace accord in fostering a free, fair, and transparent election.
“This gathering demonstrates your commitment to promoting peace, stability, and credibility in the electoral process. The signing of this Peace Accord is a crucial step towards ensuring a free, fair, and transparent election,” Tella said.
He urged candidates and their supporters to conduct themselves with decorum and sportsmanship, ensuring that voters can exercise their rights without fear or intimidation.
Security agencies present at the event reaffirmed their readiness to maintain law and order before, during, and after the polls.
