Hon. Chief Akindipe Hammed Abiodun Akinsunbo, popularly known as Igba-Otun, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin (Ige Olakulehin I), who died on Monday, July 7, at the age of 90.
In a heartfelt condolence message, Hon. Akinsunbo, who serves as the Supervisory Councillor for Works in Ibadan North-West Local Government, described the late monarch as a beacon of unity, peace, and cultural preservation, whose reign brought dignity and pride to Ibadanland and the Yoruba nation at large.
Akinsunbo, a prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ibadan North-West Local Government and Oyo State, extended his condolences to the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, the Olubadan-in-Council, and all sons and daughters of Ibadanland, noting that the monarch’s passing marks the end of a remarkable era.
“The transition of Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin is a profound loss, not only to the traditional institution but to every true son and daughter of Ibadan,” he said. “Kabiyesi’s life was a testament to wisdom, humility, and unwavering dedication to the development of our land.”
Chief Akinsunbo, who also holds the traditional title of Mayegun of Eleyele/Arometa, prayed for the peaceful repose of the late Olubadan’s soul and for strength and comfort for the royal family and the people of Ibadan during this period of mourning.
He concluded by urging all Ibadan indigenes to uphold the legacy of peace, cultural pride, and community development left behind by the revered monarch.
