The World Trade Organization (WTO) has unanimously reappointed Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as its Director-General for a second four-year term.
This decision, supported by all 166 member countries, highlights her impactful leadership and dedication to global trade and economic growth.
Okonjo-Iweala, a distinguished Nigerian economist and former finance minister, made history in 2021 as the first woman and first African to lead the WTO.
Her reappointment underscores her successful efforts in reforming the organization and promoting trade as a key driver of economic resilience.
She has also been instrumental in addressing global challenges such as climate change and pandemics.
Expressing her gratitude, Okonjo-Iweala stated, “I am deeply honoured by the trust and support of the WTO General Council and its 166 Members.
“I remain firmly committed to delivering results that matter – results that ultimately improve the lives of people around the world.”
Her second term will commence on September 1, 2025, and will continue until August 31, 2029.
