In a significant step toward strengthening livestock development and animal health systems in Oyo State, the Director-General of the Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency (OYSADA),  The Phenomenal Executive Adviser to Governor Makinde on @agri Agribusiness and International Cooperation and Development, Dr. Debo Akande  DBA CMGR FCMI on behalf of the administration of Seyi Makinde  FNSE Dsc GSSRS, flagged off the Transboundary Animal Diseases Vaccination exercise in Eruwa under the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES).

Leading the first inoculation during the exercise, Dr. Akande described the moment as symbolic of the state government’s commitment to improving livestock productivity, strengthening animal health systems, and building resilience within the livestock value chain.

Beyond the ceremonial launch, the visit provided an opportunity for direct engagement with livestock farmers who operate daily within the realities of animal husbandry. Farmers shared valuable insights on prevailing animal health challenges, seasonal migration of herds, limited access to veterinary services, and the practical experiences of raising livestock within rural communities.

Dr. Akande noted that such interactions remain crucial in shaping policies that reflect the realities on the ground.

According to him, meaningful Agricultural development requires consistent dialogue with the farmers whose livelihoods depend on the sector.

He emphasized that the feedback gathered during the engagement will contribute significantly to refining frameworks for sustainable livestock development in Oyo State.

The vaccination exercise is targeted at over 300,000 farmers in Oyo State to form part of broader efforts by the Makinde-led administration to promote a resilient livestock sector capable of supporting food security, economic growth, and rural livelihoods across the state.

Dr. Akande expressed appreciation to the farmers for their openness, noting that their practical knowledge and experiences will help guide policies and interventions that will ensure long-term growth and sustainability of the livestock sector in Oyo State.

I was deeply honoured to be conferred with the title of Life Patron of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Eruwa District, in recognition of my commitment to security collaboration and community-based policing in Oyo State.

This honour strengthens my resolve to continue building positive and productive relationships with our security personnel. I firmly believe that effective governance begins with strong cooperation between government and law enforcement agencies.

Following the conferment, I paid a courtesy visit to the first female Assistant Commissioner of Police in Eruwa. The visit was both symbolic and strategic, reflecting my administration’s future priority to elevate security standards and improve personnel welfare across the state.

During the engagement, I made it clear that our police officers and government workers deserve far better remuneration than they currently receive. A ₦60,000 minimum monthly wage is nothing to write home about. It does not reflect the dedication, risks, and responsibilities that workers shoulder daily.

In developed Western systems, the wage gap between skilled and non-skilled workers is often determined more by hours worked and responsibilities rather than extreme disparities. There should not be an excessive gap between political office holders and civil servants. If Nigerian politicians are expected to earn higher and sufficient salaries, then government workers equally deserve dignified and competitive pay.

As I explained in my book, Our Realistic Tomorrow, salary restructuring and worker motivation are central pillars of my governance blueprint. In places like New South Wales and at the federal level in Australia, there is no extreme disparity between my earnings and those of leaders such as the NSW Premier or even the Prime Minister. That kind of system promotes fairness, accountability, and reduces corruption incentives.

I am confident that Oyo State can become a model for progressive governance, not only for other states but for Nigeria as a whole. I have adequately planned sustainable strategies for revenue generation that will enable us to review workers’ salaries to Western standards without destabilising the state’s finances.

When elected Governor in 2027, I will ensure our security personnel and civil servants are valued, respected, and properly remunerated. A motivated workforce is the foundation of a secure and prosperous Oyo State.

‎‎The Palace of the Eleruwa of Eruwa has issued a formal clarification following reports that the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) forwarded a petition concerning the Eruwa chieftaincy stool to the Oyo State Attorney General.

‎In a press release signed by the Director of Media and Public Communications, Sunday Adedokun, the palace dismissed suggestions of court disobedience, stressing that the AGF’s action was a matter of legal procedure rather than an indictment.

‎According to the statement, the letter from the Federal Ministry of Justice, dated July 22, 2025, merely acknowledged receipt of a petition and, in line with constitutional provisions, directed the petitioners to the appropriate authority. The palace emphasized that the matter falls within the jurisdiction of the Oyo State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, as the Federal Attorney General has no authority over chieftaincy disputes.

‎The palace also addressed the role of Mr. Sola Abegunde, who publicly announced the petition. It described him as neither a prince nor a stakeholder in Eruwa’s traditional institution, dismissing his involvement as unwarranted and misleading.

‎“His persistent involvement in matters concerning the Eleruwa stool is both unwarranted and misleading, driven by a penchant for sensationalism and divisive commentary,” the statement read.

‎Reaffirming the legality of Oba Samuel Adebayo Adegbola Ajobo Olurin I’s ascension, the palace stated that the process was conducted in full compliance with the laws of Oyo State. It further noted that the state government, under Governor Seyi Makinde, acted within its lawful authority throughout the installation.

‎The palace expressed confidence in the judicial process and urged all parties to allow the courts to handle the matter without unnecessary public distractions.

‎Concluding the statement, the palace called on the people of Eruwa to disregard distractions and inflammatory statements, and instead focus on peace, unity, and the development of the community.

Some youths in Eruwa, a town in Ibarapa East Local Government Area of Oyo State have called on the state governor, Mr Seyi Makinde, to intervene in the crisis brewing over the selection of a new traditional ruler for the town.

The youths, under the aegis of Eruwa Concerned Youth, frowned at the choice of a new Eleruwa of Eruwa made by the kingmakers whose name had been sent to the state government.

Although the state government has yet to officially reveal the name of the new traditional ruler, the youths alleged that the name submitted was that of the deposed Eleruwa of Eruwa, Oba Samuel Adebayo Adegbola.

In a letter addressed to the governor and signed by their spokesperson, Omotunde Ayinde, which was made available to journalists on Tuesday, the youths stated that eighteen princes submitted applications to the government and kingmakers, but none were invited for screening or interview.

Instead, Prince Adegbola was fraudulently selected, saying this contravenes the established customs and traditions surrounding Eleruwa selection.

The letter reads in parts: “The kingmakers reneged on their promise to hold a meeting on Friday, January 17, 2025, and conduct interviews the following day but the reverse is the case as they decided to hold the meeting on Thursday, January 16 and proceeded to unanimously voted for a candidate and submitted the name to the Local Government the same day jettison the normal process of interviewing all the candidates.

“Since it is Laribikusi’s turn to present an Eleruwa, we know Prince Adegbola is not eligible to run again. As a result, his time has passed, and we implore the government to allow the right to choose Eleruwa to remain with the Laribikusi Royal Family to avoid bad precedence.

“We implore your Excellency to utilise your good office to investigate the process which led to the choice of Prince Adegbola. We seek your decisive action in demonstrating your commitment to upholding justice, transparency, and fairness in the selection process.

“Specifically, we request that the government reconsiders its decision to return the selection process to the Akalakoyi Royal Family, as there was no serious crisis that warranted this action.

“Notably, the timeframe given to the Laribikusi Royal Family to present their Family Head had not expired when the decision was reversed. Within the period, Laribikusi Ruling House appointed a Family Head and communicated it to the local government via a letter.

“In the interest of fairness and justice, we request that the government allow the Laribikusi Royal Family to continue the process of selecting a new Eleruwa. We are confident that you will take the necessary steps to ensure that the Laribikusi Family produces the new Eleruwa and that the selection process will be fair, transparent, and free of manipulation.”

Eruwa, a prominent community in Oyo State, was the scene of a peaceful protest by youths today, June 13, 2024. The protesters, comprising young individuals from various wards in Eruwa, gathered at New Garage to express their dissatisfaction with the prolonged absence of an Eleruwa in the town.

The youths, bearing placards with inscriptions such as “appoint a king for Eruwa now” and “We need a monarch to represent our community”, urged the Oyo State Government to expedite the process of appointing a new king for Eruwa.

According to the protesters, the lack of a monarch has hindered the community’s progress and development, as vital decisions and projects have been stalled due to the absence of a traditional leader.

The youths emphasized that the appointment of a king would not only restore the community’s cultural heritage but also attract investments and infrastructure development to Eruwa.

The protest was peaceful, with no reports of violence or property damage.

The Oyo State Government has yet to respond to the protesters’ demands, but the youths remain resolute in their quest for a monarch to lead their community forward.
