Dr. Adewale Kolapo Kareem, a leading governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, has joined party members and residents of the state to commemorate the 5th anniversary of the passing of former Governor, Senator Isiaq Abiola Ajimobi, describing his tenure as a “golden era” of visionary leadership and transformative governance.
In a statement, Dr. Kareem reflected on the enduring legacy of the late two-term governor, highlighting his remarkable strides in infrastructure development, education, and healthcare during his eight years in office. According to Kareem, Ajimobi’s bold initiatives and purpose-driven leadership set a standard for governance that continues to inspire political actors across the country.
“Sen. Ajimobi transformed Oyo State with projects that remain lasting testaments to his dedication,” Dr. Kareem stated. “His leadership style was marked by strength, wisdom, and a rare blend of humility and candour that earned him admiration far beyond political lines.”
He noted that while Ajimobi’s direct and principled approach occasionally drew criticism, it was ultimately a reflection of his unwavering integrity and commitment to doing what was right for the state, even in the face of opposition.
Dr. Kareem emphasized the late governor’s influence on a new generation of leaders, citing his personal admiration for Ajimobi’s governance style and how it continues to guide his own political aspirations. He also acknowledged the many loyal followers and supporters of the former governor, describing them as “foot soldiers” who carry forward his vision and values.
Expressing appreciation to the Ajimobi family, Dr. Kareem lauded the efforts of Dr. (Mrs.) Florence Ajimobi for preserving her late husband’s legacy with grace. He also commended Hon. Idris Ajimobi, son of the late governor and current Special Adviser to the President, for upholding his father’s name through dedicated service.
“I extend my heartfelt thanks to the Ajimobi family and the APC members in Oyo State and beyond, whose continued tributes and initiatives help keep the flame of his legacy alive,” he said.
Dr. Kareem concluded by paying homage to the memory of the late governor, calling him an enduring symbol of good governance and selfless public service.

Senator Isiaq Abiola Ajimobi, who served as Governor of Oyo State from 2011 to 2019, passed away on June 25, 2020. He remains the only governor in the state’s history to serve two consecutive terms.
