The Apex and Umbrella Body for all Youth Organizations in Oyo State, National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Oyo State Chapter, has elected Comrade Eniola Oluwatimilehin Alex as its new State Chairman during the 2025 State Elective Congress held on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at the Western Hall, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.
The congress, themed “Local Youth Action for the SDGs & Beyond”, witnessed the affiliation of 17 new Violuntary Youth Organizations (VYOs) to existing over 65 organisations into the council, further boosting youth inclusion and representation across the state.
The exercise was conducted under the supervisory watch of the Oyo State Agency for Youth Development, led by its Executive Chairman, Prince Adebowale Falana, with Comrade Akeem Babalola – a Former Chairman of the council serving as Electoral Committee Chairman and Comrade Sunday Martin as Congress Planning Committee Chairman.
In his remarks, Prince Falana charged the new executive members to lead with transparency, accountability, and integrity, while ensuring that the state government will give necessary support to the newly elected executives.
He stressed that Governor ‘Seyi Makinde had no interest in an Aspirant before now, but he was only concerned that the right set of people, with integrity and discipline, take charge of the Youth council.
Falana added:
“The responsibility given to me by Governor Makinde is to make sure there is Coordination and Positive development in the Youth sector of the state of The NYCN OYO should play a germane part in this.
Today, we have conducted one of the most peaceful and credible elections that will usher in new set of leaders for Oyo State youths.”
The electoral officer, Comrade Akeem Ayo Babalola, also described the election as the most credible and peaceful in the council’s history, urging the new leadership to prioritize unity and collective progress.
In his acceptance and appreciation speech, the new State Chairman, Comrade Eniola Oluwatimilehin Alex, expressed gratitude to Almighty God, the youths of Oyo State, his organization (Royal Rangers of Assemblies of God Nigeria – Oyo State), and the state government for their support in making the congress a success.
He pledged to serve with integrity and vision, reaffirming NYCN’s role as the umbrella body for all youth organizations in Oyo State and a critical partner in National development.
“This responsibility is sacred, and I pledge to uphold it with integrity, vision, and unwavering dedication. To our youth leaders, delegates, and heads of voluntary youth organizations across the seven zones of Oyo State, I say thank you. Your trust and confidence are the foundation upon which this victory stands,” Alex declared.
He extended a hand of fellowship to his fellow contestants, emphasizing that the time for collaboration had begun.
“Together, let us advance our innovative agenda — to engage, educate, and empower our young people for personal growth and national transformation,” he said.
Alex also appreciated Governor Makinde and the Agency for Youth Development under Prince Falana’s leadership for ensuring a rancour-free, transparent process.
The new chairman concluded by dedicating the victory to all Oyo State youths, promising to strengthen all the structures of the NYCN-OYO while uniting youth organizations across the state to enjoy more dividends of democracy through future interventions and empowerment programmes
“This new chapter is not about one individual but about all of us. It is about building a Nigeria where the voices of young people are not silenced but amplified; where communication is not reactive but innovative; where Nigerian youths are not spectators but leaders in shaping our future,” Alex affirmed.
The congress ended with renewed hope for youth inclusion in governance and development, resonating with the NYCN’s guiding vision
