On the morning of January 13, the Director-General of the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, led a high-profile delegation to the Headquarters of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) of the People’s Republic of China. The visit, aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and fostering economic collaboration between the two nations, marks another significant step in the flourishing partnership.
The delegation was warmly received by Mr. Zhao Chenxin, Deputy Chairman of the NDRC, alongside other senior officials. Discussions centered on key areas of mutual interest, including trade, infrastructure development, and investment opportunities. Both sides expressed their commitment to deepening cooperation under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and Nigeria’s economic development plans.
Speaking at the meeting, Tegbe highlighted the strategic importance of the partnership in driving sustainable growth and innovation. “Nigeria is committed to exploring synergies with China to foster industrialization, improve infrastructure, and expand trade. Today’s engagement is a testament to the enduring friendship between our nations,” he stated.
Following their engagement at the NDRC, the delegation proceeded to the Nigerian Embassy in Beijing, where they were warmly welcomed by members of the Nigerian community in China. Tegbe interacted with both Nigerian nationals and visiting members of the Chinese business community, emphasizing the importance of fostering people-to-people ties alongside government-level collaborations.
The event at the embassy served as a platform to address community concerns, explore business opportunities, and encourage more Chinese investment in Nigeria. Members of the Chinese business community expressed optimism about expanding their footprint in Nigeria, citing the country’s vast market potential and ongoing reforms.
