A member of the House of Representatives, Aderemi Oseni, has taken an early lead in the race for the Oyo South Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections, formally declaring his ambition and kickstarting a statewide mobilisation effort.

Oseni, who represents Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency, made his intention known during a strategic political gathering where he also rallied strong support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the next electoral cycle. He called on party faithful and stakeholders across Oyo State to align with the ruling party’s agenda and work collectively toward electoral success.

In what appears to be a bold opening move in the contest, Oseni set an ambitious target of delivering one million votes for Tinubu in Oyo State in 2027. He emphasized that such a goal would require robust grassroots mobilisation, strengthened party structures, and sustained engagement with voters at all levels.

The lawmaker praised the current administration’s reform-driven policies, noting that efforts under the Renewed Hope Agenda are gradually stabilising the nation’s economy and creating pathways for long-term growth. He urged residents to remain supportive, expressing confidence that ongoing reforms would yield greater dividends.

Oseni further assured constituents of his continued commitment to empowerment initiatives and developmental programmes, stating that his Senate ambition is driven by a desire to expand opportunities and bring more federal presence to Oyo South.

Political watchers say Oseni’s early declaration signals the beginning of what is expected to be a competitive race, while also highlighting growing momentum within the ruling party to consolidate support for Tinubu ahead of 2027.

With his bold entry into the race, Oseni has effectively “shot the first shot,” setting the tone for what could become a defining political contest in Oyo South in the coming months.
