The Forum of Local Government Assistant Secretaries in Oyo State has strongly dismissed ongoing rumours of an alleged impeachment plot against Governor Seyi Makinde, describing the claims as baseless, misleading, and politically motivated.
The Forum aligned with growing voices across the state rejecting the speculation, insisting that there is no credible move within the Oyo State House of Assembly to remove the governor. Recent reports indicate that lawmakers and key political stakeholders have also denied any involvement in such a plot, reaffirming their loyalty to the administration .
The Assistant Secretaries emphasized that the rumours are part of calculated attempts to create unnecessary tension within the state’s political space. They noted that similar claims have been widely debunked by legislators, political actors, and traditional authorities, all of whom have distanced themselves from any impeachment agenda .
Throwing their weight behind the governor, the Forum passed a vote of confidence in Makinde’s leadership, highlighting his administration’s strides in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and grassroots development. They maintained that the governor continues to enjoy strong support at the local government level, where the direct impact of governance is most felt. This position aligns with that of other grassroots bodies, including councillors across the 33 local government areas, who have similarly endorsed the governor and dismissed the rumours as distractions .
The Forum further called on political actors to desist from actions capable of destabilizing the peace of the state, urging stakeholders to prioritize unity and development over unfounded political narratives. They reassured residents that Oyo State remains politically stable and that the current administration should be allowed to complete its mandate without undue interference.
Reiterating their commitment, the Assistant Secretaries pledged continued support for Makinde’s policies and programmes, stressing that any attempt to derail the present administration would be resisted by the grassroots.
