The Oyo State Ex-Councillors Forum (2021–2024) has declared its unwavering support for Governor Seyi Makinde following the wave of impeachment rumours currently circulating within the state’s political landscape.
In a statement issued after a consultative meeting in Ibadan, the forum described the alleged impeachment plot as baseless, unfounded, misleading, and politically motivated. The group warned that such speculation is capable of creating unnecessary tension and distracting the government from its ongoing developmental agenda.
The forum’s position comes amid growing reactions across Oyo State, where several political stakeholders have dismissed the impeachment claims. Reports indicate that members of the Oyo State House of Assembly have denied any involvement in such plans, reaffirming their continued support for the governor and describing the rumours as false and misleading.
Commending the administration’s performance, the forum highlighted notable achievements recorded under Governor Makinde in critical sectors such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic development. It noted that the government has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to inclusive governance and the delivery of democratic dividends to the people.
Speaking on behalf of the forum, Chairman Rt. Hon. Muili Kazeem Arowodana urged political actors, party faithful, and the general public to disregard the rumours and focus on maintaining peace, stability, and progress in the state. He emphasized the need for responsible political engagement and constructive dialogue in resolving differences rather than promoting divisive narratives.
The forum further cautioned against attempts to heat up the polity with unverified claims, stressing that Oyo State has continued to enjoy relative stability under the current administration.
Reaffirming its stance, the Ex-Councillors Forum (2021–2024) expressed full confidence in Governor Makinde’s leadership and pledged its continued support for policies and initiatives aimed at advancing the socio-economic development of the state, urging the governor to remain focused and undeterred despite ongoing political distractions.
