The Oyo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has congratulated the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, on the completion of his tenure as Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria.
The party stated this in an official press statement on Tuesday, February, 10, made available to journalists by its Publicicity Secretary, Michael Ogunsina.
The ruling party described Ogundoyin as one of its finest products in public service, noting that his leadership at both the state and national levels reflects the party’s commitment to good governance.
The party said it takes pride in the Speaker’s achievements, stressing that since its formation, the PDP has consistently presented competent leaders who have distinguished themselves in service to the people.
The party highlighted Ogundoyin’s emergence as the youngest Chairman in the history of the Conference of Speakers, describing it as a generational shift that ushered in a reform driven and inclusive leadership era.
According to the statement, one of the key milestones of his tenure was the digital transformation of state legislatures through a partnership with the United Nations Development Programme.
The initiative, the party noted, modernised legislative processes across states and enhanced transparency, efficiency, accountability and citizen engagement.
The PDP also credited him with strengthening legislative autonomy and institutionalising the voice of state legislatures within Nigeria’s federal structure.
Under his leadership, the Conference deepened collaboration with the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, particularly on constitutional amendments, governance reforms and democratic consolidation at the sub national level.
The party further pointed to the Conference’s intensified advocacy for the implementation of financial autonomy for state legislatures, as well as its contributions to the ongoing constitutional review process.
It noted that the body championed critical issues including the establishment of state police and greater devolution of powers to sub national governments.
On the international front, the PDP said the Conference expanded diplomatic engagement, citing strategic meetings with the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria and high level interactions with the United States Consul General and the U.S. Chargé d’Affaires.
These engagements, it stated, focused on legislative development, democratic values, institutional capacity building and investment opportunities.
The party assured Nigerians that despite prevailing challenges, the PDP remains committed to presenting capable leaders who will prioritise the interests of the people of Oyo State and the country at large in future elections.
