The Zonta Club of Ibadan 1 has presented cheques to 25 indigent students to enable them register for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) as part of the commencement of its Educational Support Project for the 2024–2026 Biennium.
The presentation ceremony took place on Thursday, 22 January 2026, at the Zonta House, Ibadan, and was attended by school principals, teachers, students, and members of the club. The initiative was spearheaded by the President of Zonta Club of Ibadan 1, Zontian Christiana Nnnana, with the aim of easing the financial burden on parents and guardians who are unable to afford WAEC registration fees for their wards.
The beneficiaries were drawn from selected secondary schools across different Local Government Areas in Ibadan. The schools include Urban Day Grammar School, Ring Road (Ibadan South-West); Ibadan Grammar School, Molete (Ibadan North-East); Community Grammar School, Elewura Challenge (Ibadan South-East); and Eleyele Secondary School, Eleyele (Ibadan North-West).
The event was marked by joy and gratitude as students received life-changing support that will enable them sit for their final secondary school examinations. A particularly emotional moment was witnessed when one of the beneficiaries, who recently lost her father, expressed heartfelt appreciation for the timely intervention that made it possible for her to register for the WAEC examination despite her family’s hardship.
Speaking at the event, Zontian Christiana Nnnana reiterated that education remains a powerful tool for empowerment and national development. She noted that supporting students at such a critical stage of their academic journey is an investment in a brighter and more equitable future.
The WAEC support programme underscores the Zonta Club of Ibadan 1’s dedication to humanitarian service and its resolve to ensure that no student is denied educational opportunities due to financial constraints, in line with its vision of Building a Better World for Women and Girls.
