

The Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP) has inducted Professor Ikenna Mike Alumona, Professor of Comparative Politics and Security Governance from the Department of Political Science, Federal University of Lafia, Nasarawa State as SPSP Fellow, at its National Conference held at Lead City University, Ibadan, on the 6th October 2026

Professor Alumona holds a PhD in Comparative Government and Politics from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, a Master’s degree in Political Science from the University of Ibadan, and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He joined the Federal University of Lafia in 2026 from Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam, Anambra State, where he began his career as an assistant lecturer in 2007.


He has more than fifteen years of experience in university teaching, academic and policy research, strategic studies, and institutional administration. Between 2023 and 2025, while on leave of absence, he served as Research Professor and Head of the Department of Research and Analysis at the Centre for Intelligence and Security Analysis, Department of State Services, Abuja. In 2022, he held a sabbatical appointment as Deputy Provost, Directorate of Research, Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Abuja.

His scholarship spans peace and conflict studies, security and intelligence studies, comparative politics, governance strategy, and party and pressure-group politics. He has published extensively in reputable national and international outlets. He has also contributed to executive and strategic-level capacity development through lectures at the National Institute for Security Studies, Army War College Nigeria, Nigerian Army Resource Centre, and the Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Centre.
Professor Alumona holds adjunct and visiting appointments at several universities and peace and security institutes. He serves as an external examiner to universities and strategic institutions, including the National Defence College, Defence Intelligence College, and the National Institute for Security Studies. Since 2020, he has also served as a resource person in the National Universities Commission’s resource-verification and accreditation exercises.
Professor Alumona’s scholarship and practical engagement in peace and security governance make him a valuable addition to our Society.
In his remarks, Professor Alumona said he is honoured by his induction to Fellow of the Society and remains committed to advancing peace scholarship and practice in Nigeria.
His academic and professional engagements reflect a sustained commitment to peace scholarship, security governance, institutional capacity building, and national development.
