The lawmaker representing Ibadan North-West/South-West Federal Constituency, Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullah Stanley, popularly known as Odidi-Omo, has said his decision to contest the Oyo South Senatorial District seat is driven by his desire to mentor and empower young minds.
Odidiomo, who is contesting under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), reaffirmed his commitment to youth development, saying he would continue to support initiatives that promote the future, prosperity and advancement of Nigerian students and youths.
He made the remarks on Wednesday during the second day of the Hon. Odidiomo Students’ Legislative Summit held at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan.
Speaking to the students, Odidiomo urged them to reject the notion that votes do not count, stressing the importance of political participation, education and informed decision-making.
He said political literacy would help young people identify misinformation, think critically and understand how their votes and civic participation can contribute to positive change.
“Your future is in your hands. Government can build roads and maintain them, but whether those roads stand the test of time depends on the people.
“I refuse to accept that Nigeria is a failed country. I am running for the Senate to mentor young minds. My commitment to youth development is eternal, and I will continue to take decisions that will create a better future and greater prosperity for our students and youths,” he said.
As part of the summit, Odidiomo rewarded 10 outstanding students with ₦500,000 each for their impressive performance and engagement during the programme.
The beneficiaries were recognised for their knowledge of ICT, mobile phone operating systems and active participation in the legislative training sessions.
Odidiomo reiterated that investing in young people remains central to his public service agenda, describing the development and empowerment of students as essential to building a stronger future.
