Former Oyo State governorship aspirant, Dr Adewale Kolapo Kareem (AKK), has called on political leaders and citizens to draw inspiration from the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), particularly his commitment to justice, integrity, compassion and selfless service.
Kareem made the call in a Maulud Nabiyy message issued to Muslims across Oyo State, Nigeria and the global Muslim community to commemorate the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.
According to him, the life of the Prophet provides enduring lessons on leadership, peaceful coexistence, moral courage and responsible governance, which he said remain relevant to contemporary society.
Reflecting on the Prophet’s early life and mission, Kareem noted that Muhammad endured severe persecution, physical attacks, psychological pressure and sustained opposition in Makkah because of his message.
Despite the hostility, he said, the Prophet remained steadfast and committed to his divine mandate of guiding humanity from darkness to light.
Kareem further highlighted the Prophet’s reputation for honesty and trustworthiness, stressing that Muhammad was widely known as Al-Amin, meaning “the Trustworthy One”, even before the commencement of his prophethood.
He observed that the people of Makkah continued to entrust their valuables to the Prophet for safekeeping despite their rejection of his message.
“This profound paradox beautifully highlights a life governed by absolute truthfulness, equity and a deep-seated empathy that transcended religious and tribal divides,” he said.
The former governorship aspirant also reflected on the Prophet’s migration to Madinah following years of persecution, describing the period as one in which Muhammad combined the propagation of Islam with efforts to establish peace, order and peaceful coexistence among diverse communities.
He stressed the importance of learning from the Prophet’s approach to conflict, tolerance and the protection of human dignity.
According to him, the Prophet established humanitarian principles even during periods of conflict, insisting that vulnerable persons, including women, children and the elderly, should not be harmed.
Kareem said these values demonstrated that genuine strength was rooted not in aggression but in moral courage, restraint, justice and compassion.
He added that the Prophet’s legacy should not be restricted to religious celebrations but should be reflected in the daily conduct of individuals, communities and political leaders.
“The Prophet taught us that religion is fundamentally about how beautifully we treat our neighbours, how fairly we conduct our affairs, and how justly we treat those who do not even share our faith,” he stated.
Kareem therefore urged political actors, public officials and citizens to translate the Prophet’s teachings into practical principles of governance, particularly in the areas of integrity, justice, accountability and selfless service.
He maintained that adopting these values would contribute significantly to building a more prosperous, peaceful, harmonious and united society.
“Moving forward, we must all strive actively to imbibe his golden teachings rather than merely celebrating them in rhetoric. His principles remain the best and most practical model we can apply to our individual lives, our community relations, and our political governance,” he said.
Kareem concluded by extending his Maulud greetings to Muslims and praying for continued blessings upon Prophet Muhammad, his companions and the entire Muslim Ummah.
