The Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Honourable Wasilat Adegoke, has felicitated young people across the state on the occasion of International Youth Day 2026, observed on August 12.
In a statement released in Ibadan on Wednesday, the Commissioner described this year’s theme, “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations”, as a timely reminder of the power and potential of Oyo youth.
According to her, the theme highlights how young people worldwide live in diverse local and national realities yet share unified goals for dignity, inclusion, and a sustainable future.
“Whether you are in Ibadan, Ogbomoso, Oyo, Iseyin or Saki, our contexts may differ, but our aspirations are the same. You want opportunities, you want a voice, you want a future you can build with dignity,” Hon. Adegoke said.
The Commissioner noted that the Makinde administration has prioritized youth development through investments in sports infrastructure, skills acquisition, entrepreneurship, and digital empowerment programs across the 33 local government areas of the state.
She assured young minds that the Governor Seyi Makinde administration remains committed to creating an enabling environment where youth can thrive, lead, and contribute meaningfully to the development of Oyo State and Nigeria at large.
“Our governor believes in the capacity of young people. That is why we are expanding access to sports, providing grants for young entrepreneurs, and opening more platforms for youth participation in governance,” she added.
Hon. Adegoke urged Oyo youth to stay focused, embrace innovation, and take advantage of government programs designed to equip them for global competitiveness.
She further called on stakeholders, community leaders, and private sector partners to continue investing in youth, describing them as the engine room for sustainable development.
