The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Oyo State and Aare Egbe Omo Balogun of Ibadanland, Oloye Adegboyega Taofeek Adegoke, FCA, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of renowned journalist, historian and elder statesman, Rasheed Olalekan Alabi, describing his passing as a monumental loss to Ibadanland, Oyo State and Nigeria.
In a condolence message issued on Saturday, Adegoke said the late Abese Olubadan was an intellectual giant whose wealth of knowledge, commitment to journalism, culture and public service made him one of the most respected voices in the history of Ibadan.
He noted that Alabi’s distinguished career as a veteran journalist and his service as Press Secretary to former governors of Oyo State reflected his dedication to truth, professionalism and the advancement of the state.
According to Adegoke, the late Ibadan chief devoted his life to preserving the rich history and cultural heritage of the ancient city, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire generations.
“It is with profound sadness that I received the news of the passing of Oloye Lekan Alabi. His remarkable intellect, wisdom and unwavering commitment to the development of Ibadanland made him an institution in his own right. His contributions to journalism, history and public affairs will remain indelible,” Adegoke said.
He described the deceased as a bridge between generations, adding that his counsel and historical insights would be greatly missed by traditional institutions, political leaders and the media.
Adegoke extended his heartfelt condolences to the Olubadan-in-Council, the Alabi family, the Nigerian Union of Journalists, friends and associates of the late elder statesman, praying that Almighty Allah grants him Aljanah Firdaus and gives all those he left behind the strength to bear the irreparable loss.
