More than 400 residents of Eruwa and neighbouring communities have benefited from a comprehensive two-day free medical outreach facilitated by the Eleruwa of Eruwa, His Royal Majesty, Oba Samuel Adebayo Adegbola Ajobo Olurin I, as part of activities marking the first anniversary of his coronation.
The humanitarian initiative, which featured free medical consultations, eye care services, surgical interventions and the distribution of reading eyeglasses, underscored the monarch’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery and enhancing the welfare of the people of Eruwa Land.
Addressing journalists on Friday, the Director of Media and Public Communications to the Eleruwa of Eruwa, Sunday Adeniyi Adedokun, said the outreach was one of the landmark programmes organised to commemorate the monarch’s first year on the throne, describing it as a practical demonstration of compassionate leadership and service to humanity.
According to him, the outreach commenced on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, with an extensive medical screening exercise held at the First Baptist Church, Eruwa, where hundreds of residents received free medical consultations, diagnoses, laboratory assessments and professional healthcare advice from a team of experienced medical practitioners.
He explained that beneficiaries requiring specialised medical attention were referred for further treatment during the second phase of the programme, which was held on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at Awojobi Clinic, Eruwa.
Adedokun disclosed that more than 300 beneficiaries received free reading eyeglasses after undergoing comprehensive eye examinations, while over 100 patients successfully underwent various surgical procedures.
The surgeries included cataract operations, eyelid surgeries, hernia repairs involving more than five beneficiaries, an appendectomy, as well as other eye-related surgical procedures that restored sight and significantly improved the quality of life of the patients.
He noted that the intervention was conceived by the monarch to provide quality healthcare services to residents who ordinarily could not afford the cost of such treatments, adding that the overwhelming response from beneficiaries reflected the impact of the initiative on the lives of the people.
“The outreach represents His Royal Majesty’s unwavering commitment to the health, welfare and overall development of Eruwa Land. It is a reflection of his conviction that leadership finds its highest expression in selfless service to humanity,” Adedokun stated.
He added that beyond providing immediate medical relief, the initiative demonstrated the palace’s determination to continue championing programmes that directly improve the standard of living of the people.
Several beneficiaries, whose lives were transformed by the intervention, expressed profound appreciation to the Eleruwa for bringing quality healthcare closer to the people.
Mrs. Oladokun Jemilat of New Eruwa described the outreach as a life-changing intervention.
“I had almost resigned myself to living with poor eyesight because I could not afford treatment. Today, I have regained clearer vision through the generosity of Kabiyesi. I pray God grants him a long, peaceful and prosperous reign.”
Mrs. Maria Ojo of Sangote, Eruwa, said the programme restored hope to many families.
“This medical outreach has lifted a huge financial burden from many of us. We remain grateful to Kabiyesi for remembering the ordinary people.”
Mrs. Ige Mojisola of Olusegun Area, Sango, Eruwa, commended the quality of medical services provided during the exercise.
“The organisation was excellent, and the medical team treated everyone with dignity and professionalism. This is an initiative worthy of commendation.”
Mr. James Adedokun of Akotapa Compound, Oke Oba, Eruwa, described the outreach as a clear demonstration of people-centred leadership.
“Many residents who had endured various health challenges for years have now received treatment free of charge. Kabiyesi has shown genuine love and compassion for his people.”
Prince Abegunrin Oyelami of Okolo, Eruwa, noted that the outreach would remain one of the defining achievements of the monarch’s first year on the throne.
“The Eleruwa has once again demonstrated that traditional institutions remain critical partners in community development. This programme has restored hope to many households across Eruwa Land.”
Speaking further, Adedokun said the monarch considered the testimonies, prayers and goodwill messages received from beneficiaries as both encouraging and inspiring, reaffirming his commitment to initiating more impactful programmes that would promote healthcare, education, youth empowerment and sustainable development throughout Eruwa Land.
He quoted the monarch as expressing profound appreciation to members of the Medical and Health Committee, the Chief of Staff, officials of the Eleruwa Palace, the management and staff of Awojobi Clinic, volunteer healthcare professionals, community leaders, development partners and numerous volunteers whose dedication ensured the successful execution of the outreach.
The Eleruwa also conveyed his appreciation to the Executive Governor of Oyo State for his continued support for the development of Eruwa and the traditional institution.
He equally acknowledged the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly and son of Eruwa, Rt. Hon. Adebo Edward Ogundoyin, for his unwavering commitment to the progress of the ancient town.
Special commendation was also extended to respected stakeholders and political leaders, including Chief Adewale Atanda Alashe, Aremo John Adeleke and the Executive Chairman of Ibarapa East Local Government, Hon. Kazeem Arogundade, alongside other sons and daughters of Eruwa whose contributions supported the successful hosting of the anniversary activities.
The palace emphasised that the medical outreach represents the beginning of a broader vision of sustained humanitarian and developmental interventions aimed at improving the quality of life of residents and accelerating socio-economic growth across Eruwa Land.
As the first coronation anniversary celebrations continue, the Eleruwa reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to promoting peace, preserving the rich cultural heritage of the ancient kingdom and fostering partnerships that will deliver lasting development for present and future generations.
