The Oyo State Independent State-Based Peace Architecture (ISBPA) has strongly condemned the abduction of school children and their teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, describing the incident as barbaric, inhumane, and a direct assault on the future of the state and the nation.
In a statement jointly signed by the Chairman of the organisation, Apostle Colonel Joshua Sola Akinyemiju (Rtd), FCMA, and the State Secretary, Ambassador Abdulsalam Abdulquadri O., the peace-building body expressed deep concern over the rising threat to educational institutions and community safety.
The group noted that education remains the foundation of peace, progress, and sustainable development, stressing that attacks on schools, pupils, students, and educators undermine public confidence and disrupt learning activities across affected communities.
Reacting to the incident, the ISBPA called on both the Federal Government and the Oyo State Government to take immediate and decisive steps to secure the safe and unconditional release of all abducted victims. The organisation also urged authorities to strengthen security around schools and vulnerable rural communities to prevent similar occurrences.
According to the statement, government should intensify intelligence gathering efforts, promote community policing initiatives, and collaborate closely with local peace actors, traditional institutions, and community leaders to establish effective early warning and response mechanisms.
“The safety of our children and educators must not be negotiable. Government must act decisively now to rescue the victims and restore confidence in our security architecture,” the ISBPA Chairman stated.
The organisation further reaffirmed its commitment to supporting peacebuilding, dialogue, conflict prevention, and community security initiatives across Oyo State. It also expressed solidarity with the abducted victims, their families, schools, and the affected communities, assuring them of its continued advocacy for peace and safety.
The latest abduction has generated widespread concern among residents and stakeholders, with renewed calls for enhanced security measures to protect schools and safeguard the lives of pupils, teachers, and other vulnerable citizens across the state.
