The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Oyo State has officially confirmed Hon. Michael Okunlade as its consensus governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Okunlade, a former Majority Leader in the Oyo State House of Assembly representing Oorelope Constituency, was unanimously endorsed during the party’s state congress conducted under the supervision of officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The congress also produced consensus candidates for the senatorial races, with Alhaji Adesokan Saheed Adebayo picked for Oyo North, Alhaji Alade Ismail Olatunji for Oyo Central, and Adeleke Kehinde Saheed for Oyo South Senatorial District.

In his acceptance remarks, Okunlade expressed appreciation to party leaders and delegates for the confidence reposed in him, promising to offer a people-oriented campaign anchored on development, accountability, and good governance.

He stated that the SDP remains committed to repositioning governance in Oyo State through policies that prioritize the welfare of citizens, job creation, security, and economic growth.

Party officials described the primary process as peaceful, transparent, and compliant with electoral guidelines, noting that the consensus arrangement reflected unity within the party structure.

Okunlade is a seasoned politician who has previously served as Senior Special Assistant on Legislative Matters under the administration of former Governor Abiola Ajimobi and also as a councillor in Ibadan North Local Government.
