Accord Party Aspirant for Ibadan North West / Ibadan South West Federal Constituency, Mayegun Sunday Olusegun Babanumi, has thrown his weight behind any system that promotes inclusive and consultative governance.
“Leadership that ignores the pulpit, the mihrab, and the shrine ignores the heartbeat of the people,” Babanumi stated on Friday.
“In Ibadan South West and North West, our mosques, churches, and traditional worship centers are not just places of prayer. They are the first responders to social need, the custodians of community trust, and the early warning system for peace and conflict.”
Babanumi said he fully aligns with the all-inclusive, consultative approach for three key reasons:
1. Governance works when it reflects lived reality
Giving religious leaders a formal seat on the Community Advisory Forum ensures Zonal Intervention Projects address real problems in schools, health posts, and markets. “No more top-down plans that miss the mark,” he said.
2. Peace and social welfare start at the grassroots
The partnership on early warning, interfaith peace meetings, and welfare outreach through faith centers is practical politics. “It recognizes that religious leaders know the widows, orphans, and vulnerable families long before government data catches up.”
3. Respect for all faiths strengthens democracy
A legal desk that protects religious freedom and a commitment to interfaith-inclusive public events sends a clear message: “Every citizen matters, regardless of belief.”
Babanumi pledged that if given the mandate, he would adopt and expand the model.
“No decision on projects, youth programs, or welfare interventions will be made without consulting the moral compasses of our communities. Religious leaders will be consulted before decisions, informed during implementation, and acknowledged in evaluation.”
“I believe in leadership that listens first, acts second, and gives credit to the people. This is the standard Ibadan South West/North West deserves,” he concluded.
