Girls of Olubadan High School, Adekile, Ibadan, received valuable lessons on personal hygiene and menstrual health as the Special Assistant on Women’s Affairs in Ibadan North-East Local Government, Hon. Chief Yetunde Folashade Moradeyo, in collaboration with Young And Woman Initiative (YAWI), organised a sensitisation outreach for female students.
The impactful programme, held under the PAD A GIRL PROJECT initiative, focused on educating young girls about cleanliness, menstrual hygiene, and self-development, while sanitary kits were distributed to support the students.
Speaking during the outreach, the Chief Operating Officer of YAWI, Mrs Oyedoyin Baoku educated the students on the menstrual cycle, the importance of using sanitary pads, and proper methods of disposal. The facilitator stressed the need for girls to maintain good hygiene habits to safeguard their health and confidence.
Also speaking at the event, Oritoke of The Priceless Girls, an organisation championing zero tolerance for teenage pregnancy, gave practical insight on the proper use of sanitary pads and advised the students to stay focused on their education and personal growth.
The Executive Director of the NGO, Dr Agbeja further spoke extensively on cleanliness and character development for the girl child, encouraging the students to take the lessons seriously and strive to become responsible and successful women in the future.
Political functionaries of Ibadan North-East Local Government were also present at the programme, lending support to the initiative aimed at improving the wellbeing of young girls in the community.
Staff and students of Olubadan High School expressed appreciation to the facilitators and organisers for the enlightening session and the distribution of sanitary materials, describing the programme as timely and impactful.
