A close ally and longtime friend of Seyi Makinde, popularly known as “Tallest,” has responded to ongoing public claims portraying the governor as arrogant, insisting that confidence, competence, and bold leadership should never be misinterpreted as pride.
Speaking during a press chat with members of the media, Tallest stated clearly that he would not apologize for how critics choose to interpret Governor Makinde’s personality and leadership style.
According to him, public office and visibility naturally attract differing opinions and political attacks, especially when a leader consistently delivers results and maintains independent convictions. He stressed that Governor Makinde’s confidence is rooted in competence, transparency, and performance, not arrogance.
“People often confuse self-belief with arrogance,” he said. “Knowing your value, standing by your principles, and speaking with confidence is not pride — it is self-respect and leadership.”
Tallest also dismissed comparisons and allegations allegedly made by critics, including comments attributed to political figures from Rivers State, insisting that false narratives and political propaganda should not overshadow Governor Makinde’s track record in governance, infrastructure development, education, healthcare reforms, and economic growth in Oyo State.
He further noted that Governor Makinde has consistently demonstrated accessibility, humility, and commitment to the welfare of the people despite political opposition and repeated attempts to undermine his achievements.
Highlighting broader societal issues, Tallest argued that Nigerians often expect successful or outspoken leaders to tone themselves down in order to appear more acceptable politically or socially. According to him, such expectations are unfair and rooted in outdated stereotypes tied to politics, tribe, status, and regional sentiments.
He maintained that authenticity should never be sacrificed to satisfy critics.
“A leader should not reduce himself just to make others comfortable,” he added. “Governor Seyi Makinde remains focused on governance, service delivery, and improving the lives of the people rather than responding to distractions.”
The remarks come amid growing political conversations surrounding leadership styles, governance performance, and public perception of outspoken political figures in Nigeria.
Observers have continued to credit Governor Makinde for his infrastructural projects, prudent management of state resources, workers’ welfare policies, and efforts toward maintaining political stability in Oyo State.
Go and verify.
