The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Lagos State Chapter, wishes to formally announce its strategic coalition and partnership with the Allied People’s Movement (APM) for the purpose of fielding all its qualified candidates for the 2027 general elections. This decisive step has become imperative in view of the protracted and debilitating leadership crisis that has continued to engulf the party at the National level.
For several months, the party has been dragged through numerous court cases at various levels of the judiciary, culminating in a definitive Supreme Court judgment that affirmed the suspension of certain officers whose continued presence had created uncertainty and legal impediments for the party’s activities across the country. Despite the clear and unambiguous ruling of the Supreme Court, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has, to date, continued to list the names associated with the suspended faction on its official website and portal.
This inexplicable stance by INEC, even after the apex court’s pronouncement, has created a dangerous situation of legal limbo. The Commission has also refused to shift or extend critical timelines in its 2027 election timetable, leaving no room for further delays or protracted litigation. The situation has understandably generated deep fear and anxiety among our aspirants and prospective candidates.
Many of them have invested enormous time, energy, resources and personal sacrifices over the past months in preparation for the elections. They are now justifiably worried that all their efforts could be rendered wasted if they remain under the umbrella of a PDP that is still technically litigated and whose leadership status remains unresolved on INEC’s platform. With filing deadlines fast approaching and no Certified True Copy (CTC) of the Supreme Court judgment yet released to facilitate immediate compliance, our candidates stood the real risk of being shut out entirely from the electoral process.
It is against this background that the Lagos State PDP, under the leadership of its State Chairman, Dr. Amos Fawole, took the proactive and responsible decision to follow suit into a strategic coalition with the Allied People’s Movement (APM). This move mirrors the pragmatic decision earlier taken by our leader and Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, backed by leaders of our party and is solely aimed at protecting the political future of our teeming aspirants who have now become candidates.
Dr. Fawole stated: “We remain PDP in flesh and blood. Our loyalty to the party and its ideals is total and unwavering. We will continue to work tirelessly to rescue and rebuild our party from those who have subjected it to endless court cases and internal sabotage. However, the interest of our candidates and the desire to offer Lagosians credible alternative leadership must come first. That is why we have chosen to field all our candidates on the APM platform while we continue to fight to restore the full glory of the PDP in Lagos.”
The coalition is not a departure from the PDP; it is a necessary shield to guarantee that our qualified, competent and people-oriented candidates are not technically disqualified by the unfortunate combination of judicial pronouncements and INEC’s current position. The Lagos PDP is confident that this strategic partnership has positioned all our candidates for resounding victory in 2027. In particular, our consensus Governorship Candidate, Laja Adeoye, together with our highly qualified candidates for the Senate, House of Representatives and Lagos State House of Assembly, are men and women of proven integrity, capacity and vision. They are ready to serve and will emerge victorious at the polls. Lagosians are tired. They are exhausted by the disastrous performance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) government in the state, a government that has delivered nothing but hardship, infrastructure decay, unbearable taxation, insecurity, and a widening gap between the rich and the poor.
The people of Lagos deserve better. They deserve purposeful leadership that puts citizens first. With the entry of the credible, tested and people-focused PDP candidates now on the APM platform, the defeat of the APC is not only possible, it is imminent.
Dr. Fawole urged all PDP members, leaders, aspirants and supporters to remain resolute, united and focused. “Ignore the naysayers and the merchants of propaganda. Work hard, cooperate with your leaders and let us channel all our energy towards victory. Lagos belongs to all of us, and together we shall take it back,” he declared.
The Lagos PDP remains committed to the democratic process and to the rescue mission of providing good governance to the people of Lagos State.
