Fresh cracks have surfaced within the Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as influential party leaders in Ibadan have openly endorsed Adebayo Adelabu for the 2027 governorship race, rejecting a parallel endorsement linked to another faction within the party.

The decision, reached after a strategic stakeholders’ meeting involving key APC figures across Ibadanland, signals a growing divide over who should fly the party’s flag in the next gubernatorial election.

Speaking on behalf of the group, the leaders described Adelabu as the most credible and electable aspirant, citing his political experience, statewide appeal, and previous outings in the governorship contest as major advantages. They stressed that the party must rally around a candidate with proven capacity to challenge and reclaim power in Oyo State.

In a direct rebuttal, the Ibadan bloc dismissed the endorsement of another aspirant reportedly championed by a faction led by a chieftain popularly known as Jankara. The leaders argued that such a move lacked legitimacy, noting that it did not emerge from a broad-based consultation among party stakeholders.

“This is not the time for unilateral decisions that could jeopardize our collective chances. The strength of our party lies in unity and consensus,” a party source stated.

The endorsement underscores intensifying political maneuvering within the APC as aspirants and factions jostle for dominance ahead of 2027. Observers believe the unfolding rivalry, if not carefully managed, could deepen internal divisions within the party.

Political analysts also warn that the APC’s chances in the next governorship election may depend largely on its ability to resolve internal disputes and present a united front against rival parties.

As consultations continue behind the scenes, attention now turns to how the party leadership at the state and national levels will respond to the competing endorsements and growing tensions within its ranks.
