Residents and political stakeholders in Ibadan South-West Ward 5 have intensified their demand for representation with a resounding “Lokan” declaration, rallying more behind Engr. Rasaq Olaide Oyebamiji as their consensus choice for the Oyo State House of Assembly, Ibadan South-West Constituency I.
The renewed agitation, which has gained momentum across communities in the ward, is rooted in what leaders describe as over 40 years of political marginalisation. According to them, Ward 5 has not produced a member of the State House of Assembly since the exit of Hon. Aderinto decades ago, leaving a vacuum in representation that they insist must now be addressed.
At a series of consultations and grassroots engagements, party faithful, youth groups, and elders unanimously aligned behind the “Ward 5 Lokan” agenda, insisting that equity, justice, and fairness demand that the ward be given the opportunity to represent the constituency at the assembly.
“Our demand is simple and just. For over four decades, Ward 5 has been sidelined when it comes to the State House of Assembly. This is the time to correct that imbalance,” a prominent stakeholder declared.
Engr. Rasaq Olaide Oyebamiji, a native of Apena Gege, has emerged as the face of this movement. Supporters describe him as a tested party man with deep grassroots connections, a history of active participation in party affairs, and the intellectual capacity to deliver impactful legislation and attract development to the constituency.
“Engr. Oyebamiji represents competence, loyalty, and readiness. He has been with the people, working quietly and consistently. The ‘Lokan’ call is not just emotional it is about putting forward someone who is prepared to serve and perform”.
The Ward 5 bloc also stressed that their agitation is not aimed at creating division but at fostering inclusiveness within the constituency. They argued that giving the ward a chance would strengthen unity and reinforce confidence in the party’s internal democratic process.
