Ambassador Oluwatobi John Ogunbayo, a leading advocate for youth empowerment and sports development, has outlined an ambitious plan to reposition Ibadan NorthWest and SouthWest Federal Constituency as a hub for grassroots talent and community advancement. Drawing on his vast experience, strategic networks, and national-level engagements, Ogunbayo is focused on creating sustainable opportunities that will uplift young people and strengthen local communities.
Central to his vision is the use of sports as a catalyst for social and economic transformation. Emphasizing its role in instilling discipline, fostering unity, and unlocking opportunities, Ogunbayo has proposed the launch of the Ojo Constituency Cup. The initiative is designed to serve as a platform for identifying and nurturing young talents, while promoting community participation and healthy competition across the constituency.
Expanding on this agenda, Ogunbayo also plans to establish Ogunbayo FC, a football club comprising male and female teams. The teams are expected to compete in a maiden nationwide 5-a-side tournament, creating a structured pathway for grassroots athletes to gain exposure and develop professionally. A key driver of this vision is Naija5Fest, where Ogunbayo serves as Chief Operating Officer. The vision gained further momentum during a high-level strategy meeting in Abuja involving key stakeholders, including Naija5Fest Convener, Mr. Patrick Osek, and Director of Strategy, Hon. Emmanuel Udomoh. Discussions focused on expanding the initiative nationwide, aligning competitions with professional standards, and ensuring measurable community impact.
In addition, Ogunbayo is exploring collaboration with the Senate to establish a formal sports league that will create clear pathways from grassroots participation to professional careers. The official launch of Naija5Fest is scheduled for April 17 at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, signaling the start of a transformative journey for youth and sports development in Ibadan.
