The lawmaker representing Ibadan North-West State Constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Aare Hon. (Dr.) Dawood Olalere, popularly known as D-Al-Ameen has revealed that his exit from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was due to what he described as an “ungrateful and self-serving leadership style” within the party at the local level.
Speaking during a radio programme, OKODORO ORO on 96.7FM, the outspoken politician attributed his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to internal crises within the PDP, both at the national level and within Ibadan North-West Local Government.
According to him, the leadership style of Alhaji Wasiu Adeleke, former PDP State Secretary in Oyo State, alongside Alhaji Lukman Adesina, former Chairman of PDP in Ibadan North-West Local Government and Chairman of all PDP Chairmen in the state, significantly contributed to his decision to leave the party.
Hon. Olalere lamented that despite his numerous developmental initiatives ranging from monthly empowerment programmes, job creation efforts, and provision of employment opportunities for constituents, to the electrification of all 11 wards in Ibadan North-West he received little to no support from the party leadership. He stressed that his contributions to grassroots development and poverty reduction remain unmatched in the constituency.
The Aare Muslim of Ibadan North-West Local Government, however, clarified that his decision was not influenced by the Oyo State Government, noting that Governor Seyi Makinde and the leadership of the Oyo State House of Assembly played no role in his departure.
Rather, he accused Alhaji Rahman Adepoju, the Executive Chairman of Ibadan North-West Local Government, along with Adeleke and Adesina, of fostering division within the party due to what he described as greed and selfishness, which he said have negatively impacted party members.
The former Chairman of the House Committee on Security also disclosed that he is responding to calls from his constituents to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives, representing Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West Federal Constituency another factor influencing his exit from the PDP.
He further commended the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Debo Ogundoyin, for his exemplary leadership and the Assembly’s commitment to effective legislative governance.
