Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North Federal Constituency have reached a formal agreement on the zoning of key elective positions ahead of the 2027 general elections, a move aimed at strengthening party unity and improving electoral performance.
The resolution was adopted on Thursday, March 26, 2026, during a constituency stakeholders’ meeting held at the party secretariat in Igboora. The outcome of the meeting was documented in a communiqué jointly signed by the constituency chairman, Chief Francis M. Babalola, and the secretary, Chief T.A.A. Adenrele.
According to the communiqué, the zoning arrangement is a deliberate response to the party’s performance in the 2023 elections, which leaders described as an outcome that fell short of expectations and must not be repeated.
Under the agreed framework, Ibarapa Central Local Government will produce the party’s candidate for the Oyo State House of Assembly, while Ibarapa North Local Government will present the candidate for the House of Representatives seat.
In addition to the zoning structure, party leaders outlined clear conditions for aspirants seeking to contest on the APC platform. Prospective candidates are expected to demonstrate credibility, proven loyalty to the party, and wide acceptance among members within their constituencies. The selection process, according to the resolution, must be transparent, free, fair, and devoid of imposition or personal bias.
The meeting recorded the presence of prominent party figures and stakeholders, including Chief K.O. Jinadu, Alhaji O.M. Abas, Hon. R.O. Ojegoke, and Prince Afees Oyinloye, alongside other leaders and grassroots mobilisers.
Party leaders described the agreement as timely and necessary, noting that the zoning consensus would enhance stability, encourage inclusiveness, and position the APC for a more coordinated and competitive outing in the 2027 elections in Oyo State.
The resolution reflects a broader commitment by the party’s leadership within the constituency to uphold internal democracy, equity, and strategic planning as preparations gradually gather momentum toward the next electoral cycle.
