The Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency has unveiled a youth-focused agribusiness empowerment programme aimed at addressing unemployment and boosting economic growth in Oyo State.
The initiative is designed to equip young people with practical skills, access to finance, and opportunities within structured agricultural value chains, as part of efforts to reposition agriculture as a viable and profitable venture.
Speaking on the development, the Director-General of OYSADA, Debo Akande, said the programme would integrate participants into modern agribusiness systems, including production, processing, and marketing.
Akande noted that the scheme aligns with the broader economic agenda of the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde, which prioritises youth empowerment and agribusiness development as key drivers of growth.
He added that beneficiaries would receive technical support, mentorship, and access to market linkages to ensure sustainability and profitability.
According to the agency, the programme will be implemented through strategic partnerships with private sector stakeholders, enabling participants to benefit from funding opportunities and improved infrastructure.
The initiative builds on previous youth-focused agricultural interventions in the state, which have created employment opportunities and supported the emergence of young agripreneurs.
Officials expressed optimism that the new scheme would further reduce unemployment, enhance food security, and attract investment into the agricultural sector.
The move underscores the state government’s commitment to leveraging agriculture as a tool for economic transformation and inclusive development.
