Hundreds of commercial motorcycle riders in Lagelu Local Government Area of Oyo State recently received a welcome relief as Hon. Ramata Agberemi Dabo (RAD) distributed free fuel to ease their daily operational costs. The initiative, which took place at a filling station in Ibadan, was widely applauded by beneficiaries who described the gesture as timely and impactful.
Hon. Ramata Agberemi Dabo, the Senior Special Assistant on Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters to Oyo State Governor, said the fuel distribution was part of her long-standing personal commitment to supporting grassroots workers and improving the welfare of residents whose livelihoods depend on transportation services.
The programme attracted a large number of commercial motorcycle operators popularly known as Okada riders, as well as other transport workers including tricycle operators and dispatch riders from across Lagelu and neighbouring communities. Many of them queued patiently to benefit from the fuel support provided by the government aide.
According to RAD, the initiative was designed to cushion the economic burden on transport workers who have been struggling with the rising cost of fuel. She emphasized that the gesture was not politically motivated but rather a humanitarian effort aimed at giving back to society and supporting hardworking citizens who contribute to the local economy.
She further noted that the initiative aligns with the people-oriented governance style of Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, whose administration has consistently prioritized policies that positively impact ordinary citizens, particularly those in the informal sector.
Beneficiaries expressed heartfelt appreciation for the initiative, describing it as a practical intervention that would help them save money and sustain their daily business. One of the riders, Segun, commended RAD for remembering grassroots operators, noting that leaders who understand the challenges of the common people are rare. Another beneficiary, Azeez, revealed that he would normally spend about ₦6,500 to purchase five litres of fuel, adding that the free fuel would help him channel the saved money to other pressing needs.
Many of the riders praised Hon. Agberemi for her generosity and continued support for transport workers, stating that her quiet but impactful efforts have made a significant difference in their daily lives. They also offered prayers for her continued success and leadership.
The fuel distribution initiative once again highlighted RAD’s grassroots connection and her dedication to supporting ordinary citizens, reinforcing her reputation as a leader whose silent efforts continue to produce loud and meaningful impacts within the community.
