The Executive Chairman of Ibadan North-East Local Government, Hon. Ibrahim Akintayo, has charged young people to focus on sustainable and profitable ventures capable of securing their future and contributing meaningfully to economic development.
He gave the charge while receiving members of State Executive of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Oyo State Chapter, during a courtesy visit to the council secretariat.
Earlier in his remarks, the State Chairman of NYCN, Comrade Eniola O. Alex, described the council as the apex and umbrella body of all youth organizations across the federation with branches in all Local Government & Ward levels. He noted that the council in the state is mandated to coordinate youth activities, promote youth inclusion in governance, and complement government efforts in nation-building.
According to him, the Oyo State Chapter of NYCN operates across the seven zones and the 33 Local Government Areas under the supervision of the Oyo State Agency for Youth Development. He explained that the purpose of the visit was to strengthen collaboration with the local government in advancing youth empowerment initiatives and to seek support for the forthcoming local government youth congress.
In his response, Hon. Akintayo appreciated the leadership of the youth council for the visit and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to youth development. The council boss, who described himself as a certified engineer, emphasized the need for youths to embrace empowerment programmes with long-term, sustainable value.
He advised young people to move beyond the quest for quick earnings and instead channel their energy into productive sectors such as manufacturing, production, and other skill-based enterprises with strong economic prospects.
The meeting was attended by state Few members of State executives and Ib North-East local government executives of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Oyo State Chapter, further reinforcing the shared resolve to deepen youth participation in governance and grassroots development.
